SEO or Search Engine Optimization is simply maximizing a website so that it ranks high for particular keywords in the Search Engines.
This sounds easy and sometimes is, but can be very complicated at times. The Search Engines are constantly changing the formulas used to determine who ranks where. One day your site could be ranked #12 and the next #126. So how do get to the top and stay there? SEO.
Let’s start with the fundumentals…
Keywords - the first step is to determine the main keywords that should be used to optimize the web page. You want to target the words people are searching for most. Example, let’s say you sell red, green, and blue widgets. If red widgets were searched for 22,000 times over the last year on Google, but green and blue widgets were searched for 22,000,000 times, your best bet is to target green and blue widgets as your keywords.
Now that we know what keywords to target, we place them in the page.
Search Engines are an index, similar to an index at the Library. You look something up and they tell you where to find it. They are a little more refined because they are word specific. They look at the words on the pages, a few hundred other small variables, and rank you accordingly. The Keywords being the biggest part of this algorith.
